Visitors to west-central North Carolina will find the small rural city of Statesville, a destination with several attractions to recommend it. Statesville boasts four historic districts as well as a rare 3,000-year-old mummy on permanent display at the Heritage Museum. This museum and other nearby areas, such as the Governor Zebulon Vance House, Fort Dobbs and the Statesville Train Depot, transport guests back more than 100 years with preserved historical buildings and artifacts. There are many others areas of interest found a short drive away, including the Hiddenite Center and Love Valley. For nature lovers, Statesville is home to Allison Woods, which encompasses 1,000 acres (405 ha) of land filled with lush gardens, wooded areas with walking trails, and some of the original stone farm buildings and mill house from the 1920s. Belonging to the Allison family since the 1760s, the land was given to them by a grant from the King of England.
